A 23-year-old Indian student has been arrested and charged with allegedly murdering his grandparents and uncle inside a New Jersey condominium, the police and US media reports said.
Five juveniles, who were initially arrested and charged following the death of computer scientist Divyendu Sinha of Old Bridge, New Jersey on June 28, were on Friday accused of Sinha's murder. The court also granted the prosecutor's request that they be tried as adults.Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J Kaplan announced that the five juveniles would be tried as adult defendants. The Indian American community has been demanding the same since Sinha's murder.
First Assistant Prosecutor Julia McClure submitted a 14-page memorandum on Thursday to Judge Glenn Berman in Middlesex County courthouse, New Brunswick, saying Dharun Ravi, should be given a "period of imprisonment which is in proportion to the multiple crimes he committed" and for which he was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by the jury in March.
